Interview with Cydias Aujard
Q: Hi Cydias, tell us about your career and how you came to work for Skores.
A: I did a master’s degree in marketing and digital strategy on a sandwich course for 2 years. This enabled me to develop a number of skills, particularly in webmarketing and communications.
I’ve been a football fan ever since I was a kid, and I’ve been managing a social media outlet for a football club for a number of years, which has also enabled me to get my foot in the door of the world of sport in a slightly more professional way.
That’s why, when I finished my studies, I wanted to focus more on sport in my career, because it’s a central part of my life.
That’s how I came across the job offer for the English Country Manager at Skores, which immediately appealed to me. Being able to combine marketing, a field in which I have acquired expertise, and sport, my passion, was ideal for me.
I’ve also always loved languages, so this was the perfect opportunity for me to fulfil my potential in a context that I enjoy.
After a recruitment process, I was selected and I’ve now been with Skores for 3 months. As soon as I arrived, I was given a very warm welcome, which is what really counts when you arrive in a new environment. I felt that there was a real caring atmosphere within the company, where good humour, comradeship and seriousness are the order of the day.
What values do you like best about Skores? What do you like about the company?
At Skores, there’s a real expertise in sport and the different areas in which the company works to bring the best information to our community. Everyone works in the same direction to deliver the best possible product. You have to be serious and improve every day, but there’s room for discussion and enjoyment in what you do.
What I like is that everyone’s ideas are listened to and considered. You really feel part of a group where everyone has a role to play. There’s also an open-mindedness that I like, with a very diverse professional environment, which makes the experience even richer. Finally, there’s the collective ambition to succeed.
You are Country Manager for the international market (English). Can you tell us how your arrival at Skores has been and what your job involves?
When I arrived at Skores, I was immediately given a warm welcome, with a real desire to fit in. I was surprised because I didn’t expect to be so well received. As an anecdote, on my first morning I was asked to join a group that plays football several times a month, as well as a relay race. Right from the start, you feel part of the group. For me, that says a lot about the team spirit at Skores.
As far as my job as Junior English Country Manager is concerned, there’s a lot of diversity in the tasks.
First of all, you have to like sports. The Country Manager develops a market, in this case the international market for me, with the ambition of providing as many tools and information as possible to punters so that they make good and responsible choices. To do this, we work cross-functionally, with the SEO team and the tech team, for example.
We also work with a team of writers, the ‘tipsters’ as we call them, who bring their expertise in sports betting, their knowledge of one or more sports and their experience of writing to write sports predictions.
It’s a collective effort to offer the most accurate content possible. But in the case of the international market, we are two Country Managers. I have a junior profile and there’s a senior manager who gives me advice and support every day.
Once again, there’s diversity, because our market covers several countries, across several continents. So we have to respond to the different expectations of users, understand their needs and know how to adapt.
You have to make sure that the job is done properly, by recommending the right tools or products. We cover many sports, which broadens our horizons, so we also need to develop a certain knowledge of these sports. We find out, we learn, we listen, we exchange and we move forward.
What qualities and skills do you need to work as a Country Manager at Skores?
I think you need to be curious, because you’re constantly learning here. You have to be interested in a lot of things, because sometimes you have to research a sport, a country or a tool.
You also have to be organised, because there are a lot of tasks every day, with mid-term and long-term objectives.
Of course, you also need to have a good level of language skills, as you work mainly in English. Then you have to be meticulous, because every detail counts.I think you also need writing skills, because we have to write about different subjects and in different formats.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I like most is that what we do is real. You see the finished product. When we create a new page, a new tool, you can see it. I feel like I’ve achieved something every day, which is very satisfying and motivating.
And then you can quantify what you’re doing. You can analyse what worked and what didn’t, why and when. For example, we have a news category. Sometimes we run tests, sometimes there’s a lot of traffic, sometimes people are less interested. We can readjust the content afterwards.
This helps us to improve.
